Hi Reader,

The weather is a little bit better today in northern England (it's just about staying dry for once!), so with that, I will soon be heading up to the allotment with the family to get some much-needed work done. So keep an eye out for some new developments on the plot!

One thing I am also doing right now is sowing tomatoes; I am trialling about 30 different varieties this year, so I have lots of work ahead. One method I am finding to work exceptionally well is the double cup method; read more about that below.

The Double Cup Method

The double cup method is a cheap way of starting Tomato seeds indoors. As the name would suggest, it involves using two cups. You can use large plastic drinking cups; this is what makes the method so cheap.

Another benefit of this method is that you can go a lot longer without having to re-pot your seedlings. Instead, you can add more compost to the cup as they grow.

Daniel - The Patient Gardener patientgardener.co.uk March 19, 2024 Hi Reader, Today has been a tough day; I'm a broken man. Nothing serious happened. I just had to dig a big hole to position my greenhouse after moving it from the old plot to the new one. There is nothing like some good old-fashioned digging to make you appreciate the easier jobs in the garden. But on the plus side the greenhouse is up and looking great, I cant wait to get growing in it again! Another quick job I did was...

Daniel - The Patient Gardener patientgardener.co.uk March 14, 2024 Hi Reader, I was hoping to return to the allotment today, but instead, the rain returned to Lancashire - in a big way. So, with the allotment already being one massive mud bath, I decided it was best to avoid it for another day, or three or four, if this weather keeps up. Instead, I got down to some more indoor seed sowing. With me growing about 20 Tomato and 50 pepper varieties this year, I have plenty to do! With that in...
